Single digits 1 through 9 have specific meaning when applied to criteria such as dates, names, addresses and relationship compatibility. To create a name using numerology, a single-digit number called a destiny number will need to be decided upon ahead of time based on certain desired qualities. This includes names for any purpose such as for a newborn, a new pet or even the name of a business.

Decide on a particular destiny number to be the final result in a name. This number will represent the chief qualities wanted in the makeup of the person, animal, place or time:

6 -- Altruistic and charitable
7 -- Highly educated and instructive

Assign numbers to the letters in all parts of the name (first, middle and last) according to the list below. For example, the numbers associated with the name James are: J = 1, A = 1, M = 4, E = 5 and S = 1.

Reduce the final number down to a single digit by adding the numbers together. For instance, when you add up all the numbers that correspond to the letters in the name James Tiberius Kirk, you get 74. Reduce the 74 to a single digit by adding the numbers together (7 + 4 = 11). Then reduce the 11 the same way (1 + 1 = 2). The number 2 is the destiny number of this name.
