Ginger products are made from fresh or dried ginger root. Ginger is commonly used in cooking and as a tea. It also has medicinal properties and has long been used in herbal medical treatments. Taking 1 gram of ginger daily may help pregnant women who are suffering from vomiting and nausea, notes the University of Maryland Medical Center. The ginger should not be taken for more than four days.

Drink hot water mixed with fresh ginger two or three times daily. This may relieve cramps, headaches as well as flu and cold symptoms.

Rub ginger oil onto your skin if you are suffering from joint pain. Reducing inflammation in those suffering from arthritis is another possible benefit of ginger root.

Inhale ginger oil that has been steaming in hot water. This may also relieve a variety of symptoms, such as headaches and flu symptoms.

Do not give ginger root or ginger to children under the age of two.
You should not take more than 4 grams of ginger daily and this includes any ginger foods that you may eat.
Do not take ginger if you have a blood disorder because it thins blood. You may experience irritation to your mouth, a slight case of heartburn, diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn and belching when taking ginger. If you are taking ginger and about to undergo anesthesia or surgery tell your doctor.
