How to Put a Password on a Windows XP Folder
Security is essential for any computer. It is even more important for computers used by several users. When anyone can open files and folders, keeping your information private can be difficult. On the Windows XP operating system, users can password-protect their zipped and unzipped folders, keeping private information away from prying eyes.

Find the folder you want to password-protect on your hard drive.

Right-click the folder.

Click "Properties."

Click the "Sharing" tab.

Check the box next to the "Make this folder private" option.

Click "Apply." Click "Yes."

Type a password in the box if prompted. If your system has a login password enabled, the folder will be protected with that password. If not, you will be required to enter a unique password for the folder. Click "Create Password" when finished.
