You need your prior year's return to find your AGI.

In order to file your income taxes electronically, you will need to know either your IRS PIN or the adjusted gross income you reported on your prior year tax return. If you misplaced your prior year return or did not keep a copy, you can order a free tax return transcript from the IRS that will tell you your adjusted gross income.

      Look up the information needed to request a transcript of your prior year's income tax return from the IRS. As of 2011, you need your Social Security number, date of birth and address, including ZIP code.

      Request a tax return transcript from the IRS by phone, online or by mail. To request by mail, print out and complete a From 4506T. Call 800-908-9946 to request a copy by phone. Go to the IRS website to order a transcript online.

      Find your AGI on the appropriate line of your income tax return. Your AGI is listed on either line 4 of Form 1040EZ, line 21 of Form 1040A or line 37 of Form 1040.
