Measure the drape's width. Once you know the width, you can calculate the number of rings you will need. As a general rule, clip on drapery rings every 3 inches along the width of the drape. Divide the drape's width by 3 in order to find the precise number of rings needed. For example, if the width of the drape measures 60 inches, use 20 drapery rings.

Purchase drapery rings at least 1/2 inch larger than the diameter of the drapery rod. Drapery rings have many colors and designs, so make sure that they suit the decor of the room.

Put the drape on the floor. Fasten the first drapery ring 1/2 inch from the outside edge of the drape. Continue to fasten rings at 3-inch intervals along the width of the drape.
