Creating a button as a hyperlink requires only a few clicks.

Microsoft PowerPoint has a strong set of options for creating presentations that can incorporate text, graphics, and audio and video media. When you normally advance to a new screen, or "slide," you simply progress to the next one in the outline you created. Sometimes, though, you may want to go out of order to a particular slide by clicking on a button, and you can set that up in just a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the slide in which you want to place the button. You can select slides by clicking on them in the left-hand "Slides" pane from the default "Normal" presentation view.

    • 2

Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the window.

    • 3

Click the "Shapes" option within the "Illustrations" group to open a pop-up menu.

    • 4

Click any of the shapes in the "Action Buttons" section. Each shape has a different appearance. Select whichever fits in your presentation.

    • 5

Click and drag to place the icon in your slide. The button will cover the area you drag your cursor over, but you can move and reshape the button later if you want. When you let go of the mouse button, the "Action Settings" window will open.

Select the "Hyperlink to" option, then click the drop-down menu and select "Slide..." to open the "Hyperlink to Slide" window, which lists all your slides. You may need to scroll down in the drop-down menu.

    • 7

Select the slide you want the button to go to and click "OK," then click "OK" in the "Action Settings" window.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can change the slide you link to by right-clicking the button and selecting "Edit Hyperlink," which opens the "Action Settings" window again.

  • You can make any object a link to another slide, not just action buttons. You just need to right-click the object, select "Hyperlink," then select "Place in This Document" in the left-hand side of the window, and then select the slide to link to.
