How to Make a Beka Loom
A Beka loom is a weaving loom built for children, educational purposes and those in need of a low-cost loom. This loom is a choice for many beginner weavers for its lightweight, portability and simple design. There are different kinds of Beka looms catered from the student level to professional users. Some Beka looms are small frame looms that you can make rather easily in a few hours with only a few pieces of wood, dowels and tools.

Instructions

1
Place the 3/4 inch-by-1 1/2 inch-by-16-inch pieces of wood into the clamp attached to your work bench. The wood can also be laid on top of a scrap piece of wood if you do not have a work bench.
-
2
Put the two 3/4 inch-by-1 1/2 inch-by-11-inch pieces on top of the 16-inch pieces. Line all of the corners at a right angle.
-
-
3
Make two holes through both pieces of wood. Use the drill to make two holes that are diagonally across from each other in the corners of the wood. Start at the top right corner. Drill two more holes diagonally across from each other. Now you have 4 drilled holes at the corners.
-
4
Add glue around the sides of the dowels. Place one dowel into each hole and use the mallet to secure them flush to the wood. Use a rag to wipe away excess glue and allow it to dry.
-
5
Use sandpaper to sand each dowel. Now you have a rectangular wood frame with 4 sides.
-
6
Sand the corners and edges of the 1/4 inch-by-2 inch-by-12-inch piece of wood and until they are rounded. This piece passes through the threads during weaving so the edges must be smooth.
-
7
Warp your loom -- from top to bottom. Take a long piece of yarn and tie one end to the width of the frame -- bottom piece of the loom -- in a double knot.
-
8
Grab the other end of the yarn and loop it under and over the top piece of the loom and pull it down to the bottom piece. Keep repeating this looping process. The yarn should be pulled tight enough so you can lift the warp yarn up a little with your fingers. At 20 loops, you can add more, tie a double knot at the top piece of the loom.
