Instructions

    • 1

Cut the rope to create a piece that is 5 feet long in order to make two reins. Melt the ends of the rope with a lighter, and then place the melted ends in cold water to harden them.

    • 2

Measure the head of your horse to make sure you will be doing the knots in the right places. Measure the jaw and the side of your horse's head first. Decide on what type of knot you will use. A simple overhand knot is the best way to go.

    • 3

Make the right ear knot 30 inches from one end of the rope. Move another 10 inches and make the right nose knot. Again move another 10 inches and make the left nose knot. Move away another 30 inches to make the throat latch knot. Move 10 more inches and make another simple knot. Tie into the knots you've made. Start with the left nose knot and go in order through the right nose knot, the throat latch knot and finally the right ear knot. Tie the long sections into a big knot that will go under the horse's chin.

    • 4

Tighten all the knots once you are happy with the look of your bridle. Seal the ends of the rope together by burning them with the lighter, just like in Step 1.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be too hard on the horse; a bridle can injure its mouth.

  • Your horse should have been previously trained with a bridle; otherwise it could be dangerous and cause serious injury.
