How to Change the Primary Domain in WordPress

When you install WordPress on a Web server, you select the location where readers can find your blog. You might install it in the root directory of the domain, such as www.example.com, or in its own folder, such as www.example.com/blog. However, suppose that you have moved your WordPress blog to a new domain, or moved the system files for WordPress to a new folder on your Web server. If either of these has taken place, change the domain address in your WordPress dashboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the address of your WordPress blog in a Web browser, adding "wp-admin" to the end to view the login page. Type your user name and password to proceed to the Dashboard.

    • 2

Click "Settings" on the left side of the page.

    • 3

Type the new domain of your WordPress blog in the "WordPress address (URL)" field.

    • 4

Type the location of your WordPress system files in the "Site address" field. Unless you have manually moved the system files to a new folder, the contents of the "Site address" field should be the same as in the "WordPress address (URL)" field.

    • 5

      Click the "Save Changes" button.
