How to Set Up AT&T High-Speed Internet Service
The high-speed Internet service from AT&T has download speeds that range from 3.0 Mbps for the basic package to 6.0 Mbps for the Elite package, and uses your home's telephone line to provide DSL service. Adding a new service to your existing account or creating a new account requires calling AT&T to speak with a sales representative to process your request. Once approved, your DSL installation kit will arrive in the mail and will include the high-speed modem, phone cables and Ethernet cable for connecting your modem directly to your computer.

1
Dial 1-800-288-2020 to speak to a live service representative and order high-speed Internet. Your modem will arrive within seven to 10 business days after placing the order for new service.
-
2
Attach single-port filters to all phone jacks in your home, and insert the phone's cable into the empty port on the filter. The installation of filters on all of the secondary jacks in your home is necessary to prevent noise on the line caused by the DSL service.

3
Attach the dual-port filter on the primary phone jack, and insert the phone's cable into the filter's phone port. Insert the gray cable that came with the installation kit into the DSL port on the filter, and plug it into the phone port on the modem.
-
4
Plug the yellow cable into the "Ethernet" port on the computer, and the Ethernet port on the modem. The Ethernet port on both the modem and the computer are color-coded in yellow to easily locate the correct port. Insert the cable firmly into the ports until the cable clicks into place.
-
5
Plug the power cable into the modem and into a wall outlet to turn on the device. The modem may take a few minutes to change from blinking lights to a solid green light, which indicates it is connected to your computer and the Internet service.
-
6
Open your Internet browser and type "att.com/activate" to automatically go to the registration screen. Enter your AT&T email address and password, click "Continue" and choose "Install" to finish the setup process for your service.
