Updating a photo album electronically can be a fun, rewarding process.

Creating an animated photo album can be a fun, interactive way to show off some of your favorite photos. Whether it's for display on your computer or over the Internet, animated photo albums, although a little more work, can be a nice step up over simple slide shows or galleries. Although many video editing suites can put together quality albums, it's a little more user friendly to find a program that's specially designed for creating interactive photo albums. There are a wide variety available for different prices.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a photo editing software within your budget. There are plenty of free programs available including Free Photo Album Maker, Sothink Photo Album Maker and Web Photo Album. Other programs are available with more options, but they range in price from US $20 to more than $50.

    • 2

Import your photographs into the program. Most programs are capable of importing entire folders at a time to make the importing process much faster. If you want to pick and choose your photos, consider doing so ahead of time, and organizing them all into one folder for you to import.

    • 3

Organize your photos in the order you wish them to appear. You can also put multiple photos on the same page.

    • 4

Use the program's special features to add illustrations, designs and finally, transition animations as you desire. This is something like creating an electronic and interactive scrapbook.

    • 5

Save the file. If you want to publish it to the web, look for a .swf extension. This will save it in flash format, and is widely recognized over the Internet. If you just plan to use it on your home computer, saving it with the default extension will be fine.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to display your album on a website, consider the Cooliris plug-in. It's easy to use, has a sleek interface and makes excellent searchable galleries.
