How to Waterproof Walking Boots
According to Harvard University, "many outdoor stores sell durable water repellent or DWR reviving solutions that you can spray . . . or add to the wash and wash-in." Depending on the material of your walking boots, both methods provide a simple and easy way to waterproof walking boots. Walking is a healthy exercise that all people can do. If you live in a wet or rainy area, the prospect of walking in wet shoes can be a deterrent to exercising. Mix 1 tablespoon of dish detergent with 1 gallon of water.

Dip a rag in the solution. Rub the walking boots with the rag, using a circular motion, to help the waterproof solution soak in completely.

Dry your walking boots completely. Use a blow dryer to speed the drying process.

Spray your walking boots completely using a durable water repellent (DWR) spray.

Apply three thin layers of DWR spray to the boots.

Tips & Warnings
Durable water repellent spray is flammable. Do not use DWR near an open flame or while smoking.
