How to Use an iPod in Genius Mode

Apple's Genius feature takes information about the songs you have and chooses similar songs you might also like to purchase from the iTunes store. The feature can also create playlists that you can save. You can create a new playlist on your iPod with the Genius feature, so if you do not know what you want to listen to, you can let your iPod make a playlist for you.

      Start iTunes. Click the "Genius" button in the lower right corner of the screen to turn the feature on. It will gather information about your iTunes library. It may take a few minutes.

      Connect your iPod to your computer with the USB cable. If it does not automatically synchronize, do so manually. By default, it will automatically.

      Disconnect your iPod when it finishes syncing.

      Scroll to any song on your iPod. Hold down the center button, if you have a clickwheel iPod. A menu will pop up. Click "Start Genius." iPod touch users, tap "Playlists," "Genius" then tap a song. Genius will generate a playlist based on that song.

      Click or tap "Refresh" to generate a different playlist. Click or tap "Save Playlist" to listen to the playlist later. Otherwise, the playlist will start automatically.
