How Send International Faxes
Since a fax machine transmits documents through a phone line, it doesn't matter where the recipient is as long as there is a fax machine connected to accept the transmittal. When sending a fax internationally, be aware of international calling fees. The price to send the fax is based on your phone's international calling plan. Besides possible fees, sending an international fax is similar to sending a fax domestically and only requires dialing a few extra numbers on your fax machine.

Find the country and city code for the international fax number. The country code indicates the country that you are dialing, and is often two-digits long. The city code indicates the city, just as in the U.S., but can range from one to three digits. If you don't already have the country and city code, find them on a website that lists international country and city codes, such as Country Codes, Country Calling Codes or UNC (see Resources).

Call your telephone company to verify the fee to dial the international fax number. Dialing an international fax number is the same as making an international phone call in terms of rates. The phone company will need to know the country and city code of the recipient.

Place the document in the tray of the fax machine as normal. First, dial "011." These digits indicate that you're dialing a number outside of North America.

Dial the country code of the recipient. For example, dial "44" to send the fax to a recipient in the United Kingdom, or "93" to send the fax to a recipient in Afghanistan.

Dial the fax machine number of the recipient. The number will start with the city code (or area code) and the phone number. In North America, a phone number plus area code is always 10-digits long, but in other countries a city code could be one digit and a phone number could be only five digits long.

Press the "Send" button.
