Your toaster oven is designed to be simple to operate, but there are also several steps you can take to ensure you get the best results out of your appliance. Set your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit to toast bread, muffins, frozen waffles or pancakes. Place the food on a wire rack in the center of the oven and wait four minutes for light toasting, seven for medium or nine for dark. Use the timer on your convection oven, if fitted, to help you accurately time your cooking.

Broil meat by heating the oven to between 350 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit and setting the controls to "Broil/Convection." Place your refrigerator-temperature meat on a wire rack as close as possible to, but without touching, the top element after applying any sauces. Leave the door slightly ajar. Cook rib steak and T-bone steak at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, hamburgers at 400 degrees for 15 to 25 minutes, pork chops and chicken legs at 400 for 25 to 35 minutes, lamb chops at 400 for 30 to 40 minutes, and fish fillets or salmon steaks at 350 degrees for 15 to 25 minutes.

Bake cookies, cakes, pies and brownies in your convection toaster oven by heating the oven to the temperature recommended in the recipe and placing the bakeware on the shelf on the lowest setting. Use parchment paper beneath cookies to prevent sticking. Don't put plastic, cardboard or other paper products in the oven while baking.

Grill food by preheating your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes and setting the oven to "Grill." Place food a wire rack on the top- or middle-shelf settings making sure it doesn't touch the heating element. Leave the door slightly ajar and grill based on the food's cooking instructions.
