Attend a career fair to find possible job leads.

With the recent recession and economic upheaval, the task of finding a steady job can be challenging and at times overwhelming, but it certainly isn't impossible. Fortunately, there are employment agencies and other resources available to assist individuals as they pursue potential jobs. In order to successfully find employment opportunities in your area, you must be persistent and plan carefully.

Instructions

    • 1

Browse the classified ads in a local newspaper. Scan the "Help Wanted" or "Jobs" section of the paper. Most ads provide the potential employer's contact information, the job description, position requirements and the salary. Once you acquire this information, you can start applying for positions of interest.

    • 2

Ask family and friends. Often, the key to finding a job is networking. If you have trusted relatives or friends who know about job vacancies, network with them to find job leads at their places of employment or to receive recommendations for particular positions.

    • 3

Visit a local employment agency or career center. Many agencies offer a variety of employment-related services, including resume preparation workshops, career assessments, job placement assistance and educational and vocational training. Most centers assign a trained employment specialist to assist you with job searches and help match your skills with an appropriate position. Some centers offer temporary job placement until you're able to obtain a permanent position as well.

Attend a job fair. Scan the newspaper and listen to radio announcements for information on upcoming events. Many employers host career fairs at convention centers, college campuses and other facilities. Bring your resume, dress professionally and speak with recruiters. You may get lucky and land an interview on the spot.
