Instructions

    • 1

Decide what type of typing job you want and what you want to earn. You can transcribe videos, ghostwrite for various clients, and even enter data into spreadsheets. Determine the hourly rate you want and how many hours you can work. Choose the type of job that fits you instead of the one that pays the best. Create a resume that includes information such as qualifications, experience, education and job history.

    • 2

Type search terms pertaining to the type of job you want into a search engine like Google. For example, if you want to ghostwrite for clients, you would enter something like "Hiring freelance writers" or "Recruiting ghostwriters." Put quotes around the search term to eliminate results that don't relate to what you're looking for. Apply for jobs that interest you by email or phone.

Search job boards, discussion lists and job newsgroups for legitimate typist jobs. Sign up for work from home forums, such as the WAHM Forum. Most of these forums have a section where you can look for clients.

Pay the monthly subscription to gain access to more features that will make your job hunt easier.

Find some reputable online newspapers and browse through their job section. Enter keywords descriptive of the type of job you're a looking for. If you're a transcriber who is knowledgeable about health, you might enter something like "Medical transcriber."

Tips & Warnings

  • Apply to as many jobs as possible. Typing is a very common skill, which means that you have a lot of competition. Sending your resume to as many people as possible will improve your chances of scoring a gig. Don't wait for someone to reply to your application before applying for more jobs; Sending your resume to 20 people most likely won't result in 20 job offers.

  • If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Most people earn about $25 to $50 for every hour of video they transcribe, $5 to $50 for an article, and $3 to $8 for every page they type from a PDF to a Word document.
