Instructions on How to Refill HP Ink Cartridges
Refilling your existing HP ink cartridges can save you time and money compared to the cost of purchasing new HP ink cartridges. Refilling your HP ink cartridges will require that you purchase an ink refill kit designed for your specific HP ink cartridge. Ink refill kits contain a syringe, needle and ink containers that can be used to refill multiple ink cartridges. Refill newly empty ink cartridges before they dry out and become clogged.
Instructions
-
-
1
Remove the printer cartridges from your HP inkjet printer. Turn off your printer.
-
2
Spread out your newspaper on a hard surface. Work with the ink cartridge over the paper to prevent ink spills from staining your work area.
-
-
3
Put on the rubber gloves to protect your hands from ink stains.
-
4
Open the ink refill kit. Remove the syringe, needle and ink containers from the box.
-
5
Turn the ink cartridge so the ink hole near the print head is visible.
-
6
Fill your syringe with 25 cc of ink and insert the needle on the syringe into the hole on your printer cartridge. Slowly push down on the top of the syringe to release the ink into the cartridge.
-
7
Pull back approximately 5 cc of ink into the syringe. This creates a vacuum that is needed to inflate the bladder bags inside of the ink cartridge. Remove the syringe.
-
8
Rest the cartridge on its side for a few minutes to watch for leakage. Take care not to allow the ink hole or print head to come in contact with the newspaper.
-
9
Turn on the printer. Insert the cartridge into the printer.

Tips & Warnings
A freshly emptied cartridge is easiest to refill. Cartridges that have been empty for long periods of time may become clogged.
Do not try to refill your HP cartridges using the hole at the top of the cartridge. It will not correctly refill the cartridge.
