How to Clean Exposed Brick Interior
Exposed brick is a common feature in many older homes, lofts, and apartments, especially in older cities or areas when brick was more commonly used as a building material. Over time, this brick may become dirty, dusty, or develop a filmy substance that can be difficult to clean. However, it is possible to remove the dust and debris and help restore the brick to its original appearance with some items from the local hardware store. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Vacuum
- Degreasing cleaning solution
- Stiff brush
- Clean cloths
- Water
- Sealer (optional)

Use a clean cloth to wipe away excess dust and dirt from the brick surface. A vacuum can also be used to suction up dirt and debris.

Apply a degreasing solution, available at most hardware stores, to the brick surface. Follow the directions on the degreaser.

Allow the degreasing solution to sit on the brick surface for several minutes.

Use a stiff brush to work the solution into the brick, working in two directions at right angles to each other. Blot the solution with a towel.

Rinse the brush with water, then scrub the brick while the brush is still wet.

Blot the bricks again with a towel. Consider adding a masonry sealer to the brick surface to help repel dirt and dust in the future.
