Satellite dishes deliver signals that make it possible to surf the Web.

Satellite Internet access is required in areas where standard DSL, cable and dial-up services are not available, such as in rural areas. People often choose satellite Internet because it provides them with the ability to get online whenever and wherever they happen to be. There are a couple different ways to get yourself on the Internet using satellite technology.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a satellite phone. This is by far the easiest way to access the Internet by satellite. GSM-friendly phones like the Android or the iPhone are all satellite compatible and allow you to access the Internet through browsers built in to the phones.

    • 2

Find a local satellite Internet company that will then send someone out to install a satellite dish on your home and connect you to the company's satellite Internet network. This is by far the most expensive and time consuming option, and does not offer the mobility or portability of satellite phones or satellite modems.

    • 3

Buy a satellite modem. A satellite modem is a box that needs to be aligned to a certain angle to receive satellite signal. You then plug your Internet-enabled device into the rectangular satellite modem using either Wi-Fi that is built in to the modem or a hardline Ethernet rod.
