How to Make Crafts With Quilts

Old quilts can be turned into a variety of things.

Many people have old quilts they no longer use. Instead of cluttering up cupboards, quilts can be turned into new crafts. If you don't have any quilts you're willing to part with, ask friends and family members if they have any or visit a local thrift store. Don't worry about stains or signs of aging; when using the quilts for crafts, you can simply cut around the imperfections.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect all the old quilts you have in your house. Choose which ones you would be happy to cut up. Put away the ones that have sentimental value and that you don't want to use for crafts.

    • 2

Wash the quilts thoroughly with unscented detergent. If possible, let the quilts air-dry.

    • 3

Cut out any old or bad sections of the quilt that you don't want to use, such as sections with stains or loose threads.

    • 4

Measure how much material remains. Large pieces of a quilt can be turned into place mats , baby blankets or wall decorations. You can also use large sections to make holiday crafts, such as Christmas stockings and pot holders. You can use smaller pieces of a quilt to make stuffed animals or purses. Or, sew small pieces together to make a patchwork quilt. Also consider using small pieces to decorate photo frames and photo albums.
