How to Use Cleaning Solutions With Steam Cleaners

Steam clean your carpets with laundry detergent.

Steam cleaners deep clean your carpets and are often necessary when your vacuum just isn't cleaning the carpets to your satisfaction. You can use a commercial steam cleaner or items around your home that deodorize as well as disinfect. Ensure the steam cleaner is designed to use the cleaning solution, as some should be used with water only.

Things You'll Need

• Steam cleaning solution
• Laundry detergent
• Baking soda
• White vinegar

Instructions

1. Pour the recommended amount of steam cleaning solution and water into your fluid canister to the fill line. Alternatively, use about a tablespoon of laundry detergent per quart of water. The detergent is designed to clean textiles, including carpeting.

2. Use white vinegar if you want to disinfect your carpets. This works well in breaking up pet stains and odors while killing bacteria. Use about a cup of white vinegar for every quart of water.

3. Pour in a half cup of baking soda per quart of water for extra cleaning and deodorizing power.
