How to Mute Skype Chat

Skype is a software program that allows you to make phone calls to other Skype users as well as land-line and cell phone numbers. To have a voice chat with your friends, you must have a microphone attached to the computer. The Skype software can mute the microphone when you don't want the other person to hear your end of the conversation.

Instructions

1. Open the Skype software program.

2. Make or receive a call or video call.

3. Click on the "Mute" button in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. The button will turn red when your microphone is muted and the other person on the call can no longer hear you.

4. Click on the "Mute" button a second time to turn off the mute and allow the other person to hear you.

Tips & Warnings

• Calling other Skype users is free. Calling a land-line or mobile phone requires a paid Skype subscription.
