3M Tegaderm Transparent Dressing Instructions

Tegaderm transparent dressings offer protective relief for wounds, surgical sites and IV catheters by completely enclosing the skin in a seamless layer. The dressing material is breathable and waterproof for maximum flexibility and protection. Consumers can purchase 3M Tegaderm transparent dressings from any medical supply store or pharmacy, but their primary use is in professional health care settings, such as a hospital or treatment center.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean and dry the dressing site thoroughly as directed by your medical professional while wearing plastic gloves to prevent infection.

    • 2

Apply any prescribed antibacterial ointments or therapeutic creams directly to the wound site. Do not spread or rub the cream; the Tegaderm dressing will automatically flatten and spread any ointment on the skin.

    • 3

Hold the edges of the dressing to avoid contaminating the center window. Peel back the outlined center rectangle to reveal a transparent window.

    • 4

Position the transparent Tegaderm dressing window over the affected area.

    • 5

Lift the underside of the dressing edge and locate the slit in the brown paper backing. Remove the backing by pulling the slit and continue around the entire perimeter so the sticky clear edge of the dressing adheres to the skin.

    • 6

Smooth out any creases around the dressing that might allow water or bacteria to enter.

Tips & Warnings

  • Select a larger dressing size if you need to apply ointment to the wound. Gels and creams spread out beneath the dressing window and can seep out the side without sufficiently large coverage.

  • This product is not intended for heavily draining wounds.

  • Consult your doctor if unusual pain, irritation or odor is present at the dressing site.

  • Change the dressing frequently for maximum wound protection and hygiene.
