How to Double Space in Microsoft Word for a Mac

College professors frequently request that students hand in papers that are double-spaced. In a document, double-spacing increases the amount of space between each line, making it easier to read and giving more room for written notes. For these reasons, double-spacing is common in academia and in some business situations. Microsoft Word for Mac lets you adjust the line spacing to make a document double-spaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Command" and "A" keys to select the entire Word document. If you only want to double-space a portion of the document, click and drag the cursor over the desired text.

    • 2

Select the "Home" tab in the ribbon at the top of the Microsoft Word program window.

    • 3

Click "Line Spacing" beneath Paragraph, which appears as vertical arrows pointing in opposite directions next to lines of text. Select "2.0" to change the text to double-spaced.
