How to Add Cool Animated Smileys to MSN 8.1
Instant messaging is an excellent way to connect with people, but it falls short because expressing emotions through text can be difficult. MSN Messenger allows you to express how you feel through animated cartoon smiley faces, also known as emoticons. MSN messenger comes preloaded with a number of different emoticons, but you can download and add a number of different emoticons from the Internet to further enrich your instant messaging experience.

Download MSN Messenger 8.1, if you don't already have it installed.

Access a search engine and look for a website that allows you to download free emoticons. Websites such as smileystar.com, addemoticons.com or smileyarena.com will allow you to download a wide variety of emoticons for free.

Select the emoticons you wish to download and click on the "Download" button. Save the emoticons in a folder that will be easy for you to find later on.

Open MSN Messenger and click on "Tools."

Click on the "Create Emoticons" option and select "Add."

Browse your computer for the emoticons you downloaded. Select the emoticon and click "Open."

Tips & Warnings
You can set shortcut keys for your emoticons to make using them easier when you add new emoticons. For example, a regular smiley face can be programmed to appear in the text if you type ":)" into the text window.
