How to Disable Call Waiting on My Internet Connection
When someone calls your number while the modem is connected, call waiting can cause your dial-up Internet connection to freeze or disconnect. Disable call waiting permanently by contacting your phone company, or turn it off on a per-call basis. Doing the latter allows you to stay connected and still have call waiting when you're not using the modem.

1
Contact your phone company and find out the code used for temporarily disabling call waiting on a per-call basis. Most phone companies use "*70."
-
2
Click the "Start" button in the Windows taskbar, then select "Control Panel."
-
-
3
Select "View network status and tasks" under the "Network and Internet" icon.
-
4
Click "Set up a new connection or network."
-
5
Click the "Set up a dial-up connection" option and click the "Next" button.
-
6
Type in "*70," followed by the access number to your Internet service provider. You may need to add more than one comma. The comma after the "0" tells the modem to insert a 1-second pause before continuing to dial the number. This allows time for the dial tone to resume.
