How to Use iTunes to Recover an iPhone

Whenever you sync your iPhone to your computer, iTunes automatically creates a backup of the data on your device. ITunes stores these backups on your computer's hard drive. If you ever experience a hard drive failure or other data loss, you can use iTunes to restore the iPhone and recover its contents from a previous backup. You may find this useful if you are experiencing problems with the current state of your iPhone and want to return it to an earlier condition.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the USB dock cable to connect the iPhone to the computer you normally sync with.

    • 2

Open iTunes if it doesn't launch automatically. Locate the iPhone in the "Devices" section of the iTunes sidebar.

    • 3

Click on the iPhone's name under the "Devices" heading to select it. The iPhone summary page loads to the main iTunes window.

    • 4

Right-click on the iPhone name under the "Devices" heading. Some drop-down options will appear.

    • 5

Select "Restore From Backup" from the drop-down options to launch the restore wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
