Keeping skis working properly requires some maintenance.

Skiing is a popular pastime enjoyed by people around the world. When not in use, skiing equipment must be properly cared for so it doesn't rust. After each use, skis must be thoroughly dried, but even with proper care, rust can still develop. Simple tools such as soap, water and a brass brush can be effective at removing rust from the surface of the skis. A wax coating will also help prevent rust from forming.

  • Brass brush
  • Sandpaper
  • Sponge
  • Mild soap
  • Bucket
  • Paper towel
  • Cork

Instructions

    • 1

      Scrape visible rust off the surface of the skis with a brass brush. If a brass brush is not available, use sandpaper instead.

      Prepare a solution of mild soap and water. Use a sponge to thoroughly wash the skis to remove dirt, grime and rust.

      Pour buckets of warm water over the skis to get rid of loose debris and the soap solution.

      Pat the skis dry with a paper towel. Alternatively, hang the skis up to dry.

    • 5

      Apply ski wax with a cork. Wax may be purchased at your local sporting goods store. Using wax on your skis will help reduce future occurrences of rust.
