1
Pour a small amount of methanol into a container. Methanol can be easily obtained in the auto department of Walmart. Look for a brand of antifreeze called "Heet," which is composed entirely of methanol.
-
2
Sprinkle a small amount of boric acid into the methanol using a spoon and stir to help it dissolve. Don't worry if some of the powder settles at the bottom. You can find boric acid in several household roach killers, but a popular brand by the name of "Enoz Roach Away" is 99 percent of the proper chemical.

How long your flame will burn depends on how much methanol you use when making the fuel. The more methanol you use, the longer the flame lasts.
Always do this outside. There be a lot of smoke produced, which will set off your fire alarms indoors. Always avoid breathing smoke and fumes. Do not allow children to perform this experiment.
