How to Get a URL From a History

How to Get a URL From a History thumbnail
Browsers save website URLs in their history.

As long as the history feature is enabled on your Internet browser, the browser will record information about the pages you have visited, including the URLs. If you need to return to a website you visited recently but have forgotten the URL, you can refer back to your browser's history to obtain the address. Each browser has a different method of viewing the history, but all display the URLs of visited websites.

Instructions

  1. Firefox

    • 1

      Launch your Firefox browser.

    • 2

Click "History," then click "Show All History."

    • 3

Double-click the time frame when you visited the website. This may be a time frame such as "Today," "Yesterday," "Last 7 Days" or "This Month."

    • 4

Click the name of the website to view its information. Firefox displays the website URL in the "Location" text box.

    Internet Explorer

    • 5

      Launch the Internet Explorer browser.

    • 6

Click the "Favorites" button -- not the "Favorites" tab, then click "History."

    • 7

Click the time frame when you visited the website.

    • 8

Hover your mouse over the name of the website. You will see the website URL in a hover box next to your mouse. You can also click the link to visit the site and get the URL from the address bar while you are on the Web page.

    Google Chrome

    • 9

      Launch your Google Chrome browser.

    • 10

      Click the wrench icon.

    • 11

Click "History" from the drop-down menu. This will launch the history page, which lists all the website URLs you visited based on the date of your visit. If the site URL is not listed, click the link to visit the Web page and retrieve the URL from the address bar.
