How to Convert Siemen to Micro

Siemens are the SI unit of electrical conductance.

Siemens is a measure of electrical conductance in the International System of Units. It is a useful measurement in the fields of science, especially physics and engineering, allowing an estimate of how well an object will be able to transfer or conduct electricity. The value of Siemens will at times need converted to a lower value, such as Microsiemens, which is 1 millionth of a Siemen. Because Siemens is a value in the metric system, you only need to know how the metric system works in order to convert Siemens to Microsiemens.

Instructions

1. Write down the number of Siemens you would like to convert to Microsiemens, including the decimal point. In this article, to keep the conversion simple, the example will be 1.0 Siemen.

2. Move the decimal point six places to the right of your value of Siemens using your pencil. Draw hash marks to indicate each space

   Example: "1.0 Siemen = 1 - - - - - -.0 Microsiemens"

3. Write a zero for each movement of the decimal in front of the decimal's new position with your pencil. The decimal moved six places, so there should be the original one Siemen followed by six zeroes.

   Example: "1.0 Siemen = 1,000,000.0 Microsiemens"

4. Check your answer by multiplying you original value by 1 million. One Siemen is equal to one-million Microsiemens. If that number is the same as the number of your first calculation, you have correctly calculated converted Siemens to Microsiemens.

   Example: "1.0 x 1,000,000 = 1,000,000." The number is the same.

Tips & Warnings

• Siemens are SI units, and all SI units use the metric system. By learning the metric system, you will be able to convert any of the common SI units.

• If you want to change your value of Microsiemens back into Siemens, remember that 1 million Microsiemens equals a single Siemen. Dividing the number of Microsiemens by 1 million will convert Microsiemens into Siemens.
