Making a Cinderella Carriage Centerpiece

The story of Cinderella is a classic fairytale about magic, finding love and learning that appearances can be deceiving. A Cinderella theme for a party, such as a birthday party or wedding, can lend a romantic and magical touch to the gathering. Carriage centerpieces can help embody this theme, as Cinderella was whisked off in a pumpkin-turned-carriage. Making your own carriage centerpieces is easy to do; using actual pumpkins can lend to the authenticity of a Cinderella carriage centerpiece.

Things You'll Need

  • Mini pumpkin
  • White glitter spray paint
  • Gold acrylic latex paint
  • Thin-tipped artist’s brush
  • 4 2-liter bottle caps
  • Hot glue
  • Thin gold garland
  • Place your pumpkin on some newspaper in a well-ventilated area.

  • Paint the entirety of the pumpkin with white glitter spray paint and let it dry for an hour. After the hour, apply another layer of paint and let the pumpkin dry fully.

  • Paint the stem of your pumpkin with gold acrylic latex paint. Use a small artist’s brush to avoid getting paint on the pumpkin itself; this also allows you to paint any small crevices or details of the stem. Allow the stem to dry for an hour.

  • Paint gold lines down the creases along the sides of your pumpkin with the thin tip of your artist’s brush. These lines will emulate the look of gilding on Cinderella’s carriage.

  • Spray paint four bottle caps with white glitter paint and let them dry for an hour.

  • Paint small circles and spokes onto the top part of each bottle cap with the thin artist’s brush and gold paint. Allow the paint to dry. These will be your carriage wheels.

  • Apply glue to the rounded edge of one of your bottle caps and glue it to the bottom front side of your pumpkin.

  • Repeat with another bottle cap on the opposite front side of the pumpkin, across from the first bottle cap.

  • Glue the remaining two bottle caps on either side of the back bottom part of your pumpkin so that it stands up on the bottle caps.

  • Place a small amount of thin gold garland in the center of the table and place the carriage atop it.

  • Pull and twist the garland so that it swirls around your carriage, mimicking the gold vines of Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage.
