How to prepare chicken and sausage penne
Penne is a short-cut, tubular pasta which has diagonally cut ends. There are a plethora of recipes for it, which can include vegetables, meat, or seafood. Chicken and sausage penne is not a commonly used recipe, but allows for great versatility. A red cream sauce can be served with it. Since the dish is less popular than a classic, such as penne with vodka sauce, one can take more liberty in interpreting and preparing the recipe. Since chicken and sausage penne has two white meats, it pairs well with white wine. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 12 oz. penne pasta
- 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced into thin strips
- 1 lb hot Italian sausage, sliced
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 yellow bell pepper, chopped
- 1 yellow onion, minced
- ¼ tsp dried basil
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ cup chopped garlic
- 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 jar (26 oz.) of tomato sauce
- 1½ cups heavy cream
- ¼ cup white wine

Pour two tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet and let heat at medium temperature.

Drop the sliced sausage, chicken, onions, and garlic in the skillet. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, and basil on top.

Allow the meat and vegetables to brown for 10 to 15 minutes at the mid-point between medium and high flame. Occasionally, stir the ingredients with a wooden spoon.

Add the green, yellow, and red bell peppers. Maintain the medium to high flame level. Allow to simmer for five minutes. Occasionally, stir the ingredients so that the do not burn.

Lower the heat to a medium flame. Add the white wine, tomato sauce, and heavy cream. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring often.

Olive oil is a healthy alternative to using salt to prevent the pasta from sticking together. Boil the penne in water with two tablespoons of olive oil, stir occasionally. Allow the penne to cook for ten minutes and then drain. The objective is for the penne and the ingredients in the skillet to become ready at the same time.

Once the penne is ready, drain it and place it in a large serving bowl. Pour the contents of the skillet - the sauce with chicken, sausage and peppers - over the pasta and mix well, before serving.

Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, for added flavor.
Serve with a Pinot Grigio wine.
