How to Create a Shorter URL in Twitter
Twitter is a social media website with multiple applications, which range from communication with colleagues, family and friends to advertising for business endeavors. One of Twitter's most unique features--its tweets, short messages limited to 140 character in length--is also a potential impediment. A workaround does exist, however, namely in the form of several websites which allow you to "shorten" URLs you post within tweets, allowing you more characters to explain their importance to your Twitter network.

1
Copy the URL you wish to shorten to your computer's clipboard. Double-click the URL within your address bar to highlight it and hold down "Ctrl+C" to copy it. If you're copying a URL from within a webpage, right-click it and click "Copy" from the resulting menu.

2
Shorten your URL using "bit.ly" or "Tiny URL," the two official URL-shortening services Twitter recommends. Paste your URL into the field on either website--press "Ctrl+V"--and click "Shorten" to receive a shortened URL. Register a free account with either service to have the option of customizing your shortened URL. Click "Copy" to copy your shortened URL to your computer's clipboard.
