The Best Way to Make Quinoa

Quinoa, the seeds of the goosefoot plant, is popularly substituted for grains due to its cooking characteristics. Quinoa has ancient origins and is considered a superfood rich in protein and important minerals such as iron, phosphorus, manganese and magnesium. It is also a delicious alternative to rice and a great choice for health conscious individuals. Cooked properly, you can enjoy fluffy, nutty quinoa anytime of the day. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Salt

Instructions

      Fill a bowl with water and transfer 1 cup of quinoa into it. Let the quinoa soak for about 15 to 30 minutes. This soaking process will help loosen up any remnants of saponin (commonly removed during processing), which cause bitterness.

      Transfer the soaked quinoa into a fine mesh strainer and rinse under running water. Completely drain the quinoa in order to remove any unwanted remnants left over from soaking.

      Pour 1 1/2 cups of clean water into a medium size sauce pan. Add the quinoa and a pinch of salt or your favorite seasonings to taste.

      Place the lid on the saucepan and boil until the quinoa starts to bubble. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting and let cook for 10 to15 minutes.

      Remove the quinoa from the heat and set it aside with the lid still on for five minutes. Fluff the cooked quinoa with a fork and serve.
