The current Marine Corps Flag was adopted in 1939.

The red and gold Marine Corps flag is a symbol of one of the oldest divisions of the United States military. Members of the Corps hold their flag in great reverence. The Marine Corps flag is officially flown at Marine installations, as well as in the office of the President of the United States and senior military officials. As with the United States flag and other flags of importance, the Marine Corps flag should be handled with dignity and stored appropriately, when not on display. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the flag in half lengthwise twice, so that it is one-quarter its original height.

    • 2

Fold the corner of the flag downward to the bottom edge -- so the folded portion of the flag creates a triangle shape.

    • 3

Fold the triangle over its straight edge so the outward point of the triangle shape is pointing in the other direction.

    • 4

Flip the triangle fold over its diagonal edge, to fold it upward. Repeat steps 3 and 4, until the entire flag is folded into a triangle shape.

    • 5

Tuck any leftover flag material into the folded edge of the triangle.

    • 6

Place the folded flag into a flag storage box or storage bag. You should keep the flag stored indoors and away from excessive heat or humidity.
