How Do You Place a Background Image in MS Word?

Using Microsoft Word you can change the background of a new or existing document to a solid color, an image of your choice or a text watermark. Word includes several different watermarks for common designations, such as confidential or urgent documents, but any picture on your computer can be used as a custom watermark. Page background options for a Word document can be accessed under the Page Layout tab of the ribbon.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Page Layout tab on the Office ribbon and click the Watermark button.

    • 2

      Click "Custom Watermark."

    • 3

Click the "Picture Watermark" radio button and click "Select Picture."

    • 4

Select the picture you want to place in the background and click "Open."

    • 5

Click "OK" to save your background settings.
