The market is loaded with optics, feeder supplies, books, jewelry and collectibles for birders. Try your local nature store for some great ideas.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Greeting Cards
  • A Bird Feeders
  • Birdseeds
  • Gift Baskets
  • Lip Balm
  • Sunscreen
  • Gift Certificates
  • Disposable Cameras
  1. Step 1

Find out what the birder enjoys most about birding: birding travel, feeding birds, reading about birds, collecting specific bird items, wearing bird-related clothing.

  2. Step 2

Choose a gift that reflects the birder's favorite activities. Items often appreciated by birders include bird-related stationery or note cards, T-shirts, bird jewelry, books about birds, glass or porcelain birds, bird feeders and household items with birds illustrated on them.

  3. Step 3

Buy a gift certificate to a birding specialty store or bookstore. Serious birders usually have extensive libraries of bird books. A gift certificate will allow the birder to choose a book he or she may not already have.

  4. Step 4

Make a gift basket of things birders often use: bottled water, insect repellent, sunscreen, lip balm, snacks, checklists, a pass to a wildlife refuge, a disposable camera, maps and a bird-finding guide.

Tips & Warnings
  • Birdseed is always a welcome gift for birders who feed birds.
  • Some birders get tired of receiving bird collectibles and welcome something more practical.
  • You won't want to purchase a field guide, binoculars, bird-listing software or a spotting scope for an experienced birder. These are best chosen by the person who is going to use them.
