How to Claim a Vanity URL in Facebook

Facebook usernames -- which are different from the first and last name that appear on every profile-- must be unique to every user. By default, a username is a sequence of numbers, but users may also choose a personalized username. Once chosen, the username is reflected in the URL for a person's Facebook profile page. For example, if the username is john.smith, the vanity URL is facebook.com/john.smith. Each Facebook user is permitted to change this personalized URL only once.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Account" link in the top-right corner of any Facebook page. Click on the "Settings" tab.

    • 2

Click on the "Change" link next to "Username" in the second section on the page.

    • 3
