How to Make Ice Block Buckets

You can serve drinks in a bucket made of ice.

If you are organizing a lawn party or a barbecue, you can make the event more exciting by putting the bottled and canned drinks into an ice block bucket. An ice block bucket is a single block of ice that is formed into the shape of a bucket, in which you place the drinks. You can make your own ice block bucket at home using materials that can be found around your house.

Things You'll Need

• Cardboard box
• Plastic garbage bag
• Bucket
• Stone
• Deep freezer

Instructions

1. Line a cardboard box with a garbage bag. This prevents the box from leaking water when you fill it.

2. Fill the lined cardboard box with water, filling it three-fourths full.

3. Insert a bucket into the cardboard box, and place a stone into the middle of the bucket. Use a stone that is heavy enough to keep the bucket down, but light enough to allow the bucket to be elevated 3 inches from the bottom of the box.

4. Place the box into a deep freezer for 12 hours.

5. Remove the box from the freezer, and remove the stone. Fill the bucket with hot water to allow the bucket to dislodge from the ice. Remove the bucket from the ice.

6. Pull the ice block from the cardboard by lifting up the plastic bag. Peel off the plastic bag to reveal the ice block bucket. Repeat to create as many ice block buckets as you need for your event.
