How to Record Audio Through a Mac Pro Line-In
The Mac Pro is a desktop computer made by Apple that you can use to make audio recordings. It has multiple Intel processor cores, ranging from four to 12 as of March 2011. The Mac Pro supports up to eight TB of internal hard drive and solid-state drive storage and 32 GB of random access memory (RAM). It also comes with a SuperDrive to read and write CDs and DVDs. You can easily record audio through the Mac Pro's Line-In input with free software that comes installed on the computer.

Click the Apple icon at the top-left of the screen on your Mac Pro.

Click "System Preferences."

Click "Sound."

Click the "Input" tab.

Click "Line In" to select the built-in line-in input.

Plug a microphone into the line-in jack on the Mac Pro.
Recording

Click on the "QuickTime Player" icon in the dock, located at the bottom of the screen to launch Apple's native audio/video recorder and player.

Click "File."

Click "New Audio Recording." An audio recording window will appear.

Click on the red button in the middle of the audio recording window to start recording through the microphone that's plugged into the Mac Pro's line-in input. The button will turn black. The window will show the elapsed recording time and the amount of disk space the recording is using. You will also see recording level bars that correspond to the volume of the sound being recorded.

Click the black button to stop recording. The window will now display controls to play, rewind and fast-forward through the audio recording. It will have the name "Audio Recording.mov." Click "File," then click "Save As" to give it a new name.
