DIY Escort Cards

DIY Escort Cards thumbnail
Many escort cards are tented so guests may quickly find their name.

Escort cards are similar to place cards at a wedding reception and designate each guest to a table at the reception unlike place cards, which assign guests to a specific seat at the table. The escort cards can be as simple or extravagant as you'd like and may correlate to the invitations or theme of the wedding. The escort cards are often displayed on a table outside of the banquet room upon guest arrival and are placed in alphabetical order so guests can find their card promptly without a long wait to enter the reception room.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new, blank word processing document on your laptop or desktop computer with a business card template measuring 4-by-2.5 inches for each usable space. Choose a romantic, swirly or calligraphy font for the escort cards.

    • 2

Type the last name initial of the first guest in the top, left business card space. Highlight the capital letter, enlarge the font to a 72 point size, center it in the space and change the font color to a lighter hue matching the colored card stock.

    • 3

Draw a text box over the initial and type the guest's full name in the same or a complementary font. Format the text box with no background color or "fill." Enlarge the text box to just inside the allotted 4-by-2.5-inch space and adapt the outline to a 4.5 point line to create an elegant border. In the bottom, right-hand corner of the text box, type the assigned table number. Center the guest's name both vertically and horizontally over the initial within the text box and leave the table number on the bottom right.

    • 4

Fill each business card section on the page with additional guest names, initials and table numbers using the same steps. Check each name for the correct spelling. Print the page onto a piece of white card stock. Trim each guest name around the text box border with a paper cutter for a straight edge, leaving a small bit of white outside the black rectangle.

    • 5

Cut 4-by-5-inch rectangles from colored card stock pieces. Fold in half carefully and adhere one white card stock guest name to each colored card stock tent with a glue dot on each corner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wedding fonts can be downloaded at no cost via the Internet and used with your existing word processing program.

  • Use a hole puncher, thread a piece of decorative ribbon through two holes near the fold, and tie to create a bow on the front of the card over the guest name for an added touch.
