Mushing crunchy or creamy peanut butter together with a sweet grape jelly on white bread is the most common way of making the sandwich. Many people make their PB&Js -- as they are often called -- using a variety of breads and spreads: whole-wheat or rye bread, strawberry, blueberry or apricot jelly, or toast. Nonetheless, the classic version of the sandwich has been made the same way for generations. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Spread peanut butter with a knife on one side of one of the bread slices. Spread it evenly, all the way to the crust.

    • 2

Place the jelly on top of the peanut butter and spread it, but not all the way to the edges. This will keep the jelly from spilling over the sides when you pick up the sandwich.

    • 3

Cover the peanut butter and jelly with the other slice of bread. Slice the sandwich diagonally or straight down the middle, as you prefer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with different jelly flavors and different types of peanut butter to find the perfect combination for you.

  • Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches freeze well, if you want to make a bunch at one time and save them for later. Individually wrap each sandwich and place them in freezer bags to freeze.
