How to Bake Parchment Paper

How to Bake Parchment Paper thumbnail
Use parchment paper to bake cookies.

Parchment paper is an expensive alternative to non-stick cooking spray that ensures baking items do not stick to pans while in the oven. The paper provides a non-stick coating that can line cookie sheets, cake pans, muffin tins and baking sheets. Lining the items is simply a matter of tearing off the appropriate amount needed by measuring the pan and cutting off any excess paper. Once the paper is used, throw it away and use a new piece for future baking projects. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out the amount of parchment paper you need by rolling out the paper and holding it up to the pan. Tear the paper from the roll using the serrated edge provided on the box or using scissors to cut.

    • 2

Line the cookie sheet or baking sheet with paper. Typically, you do not need to have the edges trimmed; however, if the paper is hanging over the sheet and may touch the oven rack, the edges must be trimmed to prevent burning.

Use the paper in pans such as muffin tins and brownie pans by lining the edges. To insert paper into muffin tins, cut a small square and push the paper into one muffin cup. Use your fingers to smooth the bottom of the paper against the edges of the muffin cup. Pour the batter into the cup. To line a brownie pan, insert the paper into the pan and use your finger to press down the inside edges of the pan. Extra paper should line the sides of the brownie pan so the complete interior of the pan is lined with parchment paper.

Cook for the time recommended by the recipe. Once the item has finished baking and cooling, the sheet can be removed and discarded.

Tips & Warnings

  • Slide the parchment paper full of baked cookies directly on a cooling rack.

  • Prepare the next batch of cookies by placing them on a new sheet of parchment paper, and sliding the paper onto the sheet when ready.

  • Do not use non-stick cooking spray on the parchment paper because it will turn the paper brown during cooking.
