How to Use Candy Cane Leg Holders

Unlike these stirrups, a candy can leg holder fastens the ankle from above.

Candy cane leg holders are devices that attach to a hospital bed, for securing a patient's legs in a stationary position. Patients are placed in these leg holders when giving birth, undergoing surgery, recovering from a broken limb and for many other reasons. Candy cane leg holders are different from standard metal stirrups, which support the foot or ankle from below, in that they secure the legs in a Velcro cloth strap from above.

Instructions

1. Lay the patient on his back in the hospital bed.

2. Adjust the height of the candy can leg holder, loosening the clamp at its base. The height should be adjusted to the patient's preference. Securely tighten the the clamp afterwards.

3. Undo the straps hanging from the candy can leg holder.

4. Place the patient's ankle in the strap and fasten securely. The patient's leg will now hang in the straps from the candy cane leg holder.
