Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of your bed and add 2 inches on each side for the dimensions of the hanging canopy. For example, for a standard queen bed that's 60 inches by 80 inches, make the dimensions of the canopy 64 inches by 84 inches.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of the bamboo for the width and two for the side length of the canopy.

    • 3

Place the side pieces of bamboo flat on the ground and position the width pieces over the top of them to form a rectangular frame. The ends of the pieces should be even at the corners.

    • 4

Put an one-inch piece of masking tape over the top of the ends of the width pieces of bamboo, then carefully drill a hole through the top of the bamboo through to the side pieces. Size the hole to fit the eyebolts.

    • 5

Remove the masking tape then screw in an eyebolt into each corner of the frame to secure the pieces of bamboo together; the eye of the eyebolt should be upward.

    • 6

Wrap a length of the strong twine around the corner joints of the bamboo frame to make it look like the frame has been lashed together, rather then screwed.

    • 7

Locate the ceiling studs with the stud finder, then screw the remaining four eyebolts into the ceiling studs above the bed; they should be positioned in a rectangle, around 3 inches smaller than the size of the canopy frame. This helps minimize swing on the canopy.

    • 8

Hook a length of chain onto the eyebolts in the ceiling with an S-hook, then hook the canopy onto the chain with an S-hook through the eyebolts and onto the chain at the desired canopy height. Cut the excess chain with the chain cutters. Your bamboo canopy is now ready for drapery.
