How to Bake Moonsand

How to Bake Moonsand thumbnail
Moon sand brings the fun of the beach to you.

Making sandcastles and sculptures at the beach is an activity enjoyed by older and younger people alike. Unfortunately, making it to the beach is not always an option. Moon sand offers a creative option to those that cannot make a trip to the beach. Moon sand has the consistency of wet beach sand and comes in a variety of colors. The sand never dries out and can be used again and again. Unlike sculpting a sandcastle at the beach, moon sand can be molded and baked in the oven so your sandcastles and other creations are permanent.

Instructions

    • 1

Mold the moon sand into a sculpture or a block. Pre-molded tins can also be filled with moon sand. Smaller projects are ideal for baking. Larger projects may not fully bake or become hard in the middle.

    • 2

Pre heat oven to 250 degrees. Baking moon sand at a low temperature will ensure that your sculpture or block of sand will not crack.

    • 3

Put the moon sand sculpture, block or pre-molded tins filled with moon sand on a cookie sheet. Slide the cookie sheet into the oven. Baking times will vary depending on how much moon sand you are baking. For 1 pound of moon sand, bake for an hour. For 1/2 pound of moon sand, bake for 30 minutes.

    • 4

Turn the oven off once the moon sand is finished baking. Allow the moon sand to cool in the oven until it is back to room temperature.

    • 5

Take the moon sand out of the oven once cooled. The moon sand will have a slightly harder consistency than sandstone.
