How to Rubber Stamp Homemade Wine Bottle Gift Tags
A bottle of wine makes a nice gift. A bottle of wine with a one-of-a-kind hand-stamped gift tag makes a nicer gift. You can make your own gift tags to attach to bottles of wine. Because they're so easy to make, you can make up a whole bunch of gift tags at one time and then have them on hand for when a gift-giving moment arrives. The recipient of the gift will feel flattered that you took the time to personalize your gift.

Sharp scissors will make a crisper edge than dull scissors. Cut out the main shape for your gift tag from the lighter piece of card stock. For example, if your two colors are white and red, cut your main shape out of white. You will later set this main shape on top of another piece of card stock that is cut from the darker color. Use your imagination with the shape. You can make a traditional gift tag shape, such as a long pentagon, or you can make an oval, circle, rectangle or any other shape you like. For a crisp circle, trace around the end of a glass or other circular object before beginning to cut. For straight edges, use a ruler.

Variegated scissors make interesting edges for your gift tags. Lay your main shape on top of the darker piece of card stock. The darker piece of card stock will give the gift tag more weight and will also give the illusion of a frame around your main shape. Cut the darker piece of card stock leaving a border around the main piece of card stock. For a more decorative look, use variegated edger scissors instead of regular straight scissors.

Use rubber cement to glue the main piece of card stock to the background piece of card stock.

Choose a stamp that fits the occasion. Decide which rubber stamp you would like to use on your gift tag. Some rubber stamps have "To" and "From" written on them because they're specially designed for gift tags. However, you can use practically any stamp you have. Small stamps can be used to make borders or dividing lines, or you can use a larger stamp in one corner to convey the idea of a theme. If it's Christmas, use a mistletoe stamp. If it's a birthday, use a birthday cake stamp.

A hole punch makes a nice clean edge. Make a hole in the upper left corner of your gift tag using a hole punch. Insert a length of string, raffia or ribbon through the hole, and tie the gift tag to the bottle of wine.
