How to Change Your Birth Year in Facebook

Change your birth year in Facebook by updating your profile.

There are benefits to changing your birth year in Facebook. Social networking sites such as Facebook create opportunities for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. They also create opportunities for unscrupulous people to exploit your personal information. One way to protect yourself from identity theft and other negative consequences is to limit the details you share about your life. This includes your birth date. With Facebook, you can hide your birth year or change it.

Instructions

1. Log in to your Facebook account.

2. Click "Profile" in the top-right corner of the screen.

3. Click the gray "Edit Profile" button.

4. Find the "Birthday" field, which contains drop-down boxes for your birth month, date and year.

5. Click the drop-down birth year box. Click a new year to select it.

6. Click the blue "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the screen.

Tips & Warnings

• Hide your birth year by choosing "Show Only Month and Day in My Profile." Find this setting in the Birthday section of the Edit Profile screen.

• If you are under 18, do not change your birth year without a parent or guardian's permission.
